Tauranga City move into NRFL Championship promotion places
City's men are on a great run of form which has moved them second in the table plus a round-up of the rest of the action.
Tauranga City have moved into the promotion places in the NRFL Championship after a hard-fought win over Onehunga Mangere United at Links Ave on Saturday.
Colby Brennan’s second-half goal was enough for a 1-0 win which moves them into second place ahead of Hibiscus Coast, who drew 2-2 at Metro.
City are now in one of the two promotion places in the division with East Coast Bays ahead of them in top spot, following a 6-0 thrashing of Mount Albert Ponsonby.
Otumoetai are back on the winning trail in the NRFL Women’s Championship with an impressive success over Te Atatu at Fergusson Park. Grace Duncan and Courtney Stead both his doubles in a 5-2 win which moves Oats back into fourth place ahead of local rivals Tauranga, who defaulted their trip to Fencibles United this weekend.
Otumoetai got the best result from the Bay of Plenty’s teams in action across the NRFL Southern Conference, with Joaquin Javier Reynoso scoring in a 1-1 draw with Te Awamutu.
Papamoa and Ngongotaha Lakes both lost, going down 2-0 and 2-1 to Taupo and Waikato Unicol respectively.
Tauranga City’s WaiBOP League One side could not follow up last week’s thrashing of Hamilton Wanderers Reserves with an equally impressive goal-fest, drawing 0-0 with Matamata Swifts. Once again, City’s impressive rearguard action were on point but they could not find the goal needed to earn a win. Otorohanga, therefore, stretch their lead at the top of the table to four points.
In the WaiBOP W-League, Otumoetai became the latest team to fall foul of Melville’s all-conquering campaign, losing 6-1 over the weekend. Tauranga City Reserves also lost, 3-1 at Waikato Unicol.
Meanwhile, Tauranga Blue Rovers got the better of Lakes FC in an all-Bay fixture, Paige Rickard again scoring the crucial goal in a 2-1 win.
